Larchmont
This Multi-Family Residence featured dated designs that made units feel small and residents to feel negatively confined in the middle of Los Angeles. As the previous configuration lacked consideration of its location in Los Angeles, a busy environment where people often need a break from, it was difficult to describe the past units as a pleasurable space to occupy after a long day. Neutral wood flooring paired with stylish black fixtures and cabinetry work in tandem to open up the space by drawing attention upwards where clean white walls seamlessly meet the ceiling. Strategically designed cabinets stop just before reaching the ceiling, visually lengthening the overall height of units without adjusting the structure. Thoughtful design choices factor into the overall value of each unit, allowing them to be luxury apartments at a reasonable price.
An integral characteristic of each unit is the courtyard, a shared space for each resident. Not only does each unit overlook the area, the space is the first place residents experience upon entering and exiting their home. With the feeling of community often being difficult to find in a city as large as Los Angeles, this space was designed to encourage interaction between residents without sacrificing privacy. Thus, the more intimate programs, the Primary and Secondary Suites, were strategically placed on the backside of each unit to ensure necessary privacy is maintained. These simple yet intentional decisions work together to create a versatile space that is not only functional but also the perfect getaway from the busy city.
